I read an article about another selling site by a large corporation that is coming soon.It seems everyone is getting into the web mall business. Cool... there is room for everyone. My problem with the big companies getting into to the scene is that it will lose the personal touch where real relationships are built.

My first on line store was at Make Mine Pink. I read an article about women in business who were being honored for their excellence and found Joyce Lucas the owner of Make Mine Pink. She was receiving a special award for her web mall and contribution to helping women get started in business on line.

I went to check out the web mall (I didn't even know what a web mall was at the time) . I found this sweet mall of lady shop owners selling vintage, handmade, and some well selected mass produced items in mini web sites called Little Pink Boutiques.So darling and filled with eye candy.

Then I found the forums and met the other women. It was full of shop owners and customers chatting away like girl friends over coffee. The subjects ranged from what art project they were working on, recipe exchanges to spiritual beliefs and the power of our intentions. The lost art of conversation was going on in these forums. The women generously shared what they had learned with only the expectation of you doing the same.

The women in the forums are from all over the world. Most from the US but one of my best friends on the site lives in China and makes miniatures.(Mind blowing amazing ones I might add.)

I was immediately engaged. I felt welcome and started learning how I could participate as a shop owner. No one sold me the idea. No one pressured me with a sales pitch. No one made promises about how much business I would do. I was encouraged to really think about it and jump in when I was ready. I love soft sell when a product sells it's self because of it's excellence.

I opened a boutique. Lilli Blue's Vintage Rescues. Most businesses take a couple years to break even. I can honestly say I lost no money on my first venture on Make Mine Pink and I was there under a year. I even made a small profit. When the economic crisis hit my day job was greatly affected. I had to go back to working full time for someone else and it was just too hard to honor both projects. Joyce Lucas did everything in her power to help me save my store but I had to close. She encouraged me to take care of my personal situation and said I would be welcome back at anytime.

While I was at Make Mine Pink I became a business woman. It was the coming of age of my professional life in the ultimate all girl (except Tomas the tech guy) business world. I hit some bumps and had some rugged experiences. Misunderstandings and trying to do too much all at once. I learned that stuff happens and you talk it out and work through it. It is business and when it is your "baby" keeping your emotions in perspective is important.

The rough spots were minimal. The amount I learned and the way I grew priceless. It was a lesson in business that changed my life in a good way forever. One of the most valuable things I developed were my writing skills. I had written some in the past but blogging and writing articles for the news letter really helped me find my voice.

As I go back into business with my new venture "The Velvet Princess......Vintage and Previously enjoyed Fashion with Passion", I have been thinking much about my time at Make Mine Pink. I have come to really understand how much they taught me. People say "Where did you learn how to do that?" Make Mine Pink comes up many many times as the answer.

Being a sole proprietor who works on line from home can be hard and lonely. It doesn't have to be when you have a forum of ladies just like you . Women helping women. The encouragement and humor will keep you going.

I have looked at maaaaaaany web malls. Hours and hours of research. I reccomend Make Mine Pink.
Here is why.

1- The site is easy to navigate. If I don't understand something someone gets back to me in a timely fashion. It is not someone hired to do the job , it is another business woman who sincerely wants to help me succeed.

2- I am a visual person and the look of Make Mine Pink is easy to my eye. The actual site is very well laid out. The pictures of the products by the individual owners are framed in a beautiful setting that enhances the product instead of distracting. Not a picture frame that is so ornate that the frame distracts from the picture. The images are clean and composition is excellent.

3-I believe that business is an exchange of energy. The energy exchange gets overwhelmed for me when there is just too much of everything. I have never bought anything at Etsy or Ebay. I just get to overwhelmed looking through all the stuff. That's just me.

4- I have however bought things from Make Mine Pink. I have also had gifts sent from shop owners at Make Mine Pink. The presentation is amazing...really. Everything comes with beautiful tissue and personal touches from the shop owner. I could almost bet in 90% of the cases she packaged it herself. Often I have gotten a sweet little give away included with my purchase. Love this. I want to be a part of a community where excellence is the norm.

5- The friendships. The great women who light the path and lend a hand. A place where I can put out my hand to another. They keep saying in the media that we are hungry for community. Make Mine Pink is a place where I come to commune with other business women.

Buster's Baskets and Flowers

I am reposting this with updated information.

Many of you know that I was a costume designer in a past life. LOL Well it seems like a past life it was so long ago. Recently I met a muse,Tina Millman, owner of Buster's Baskets and Flowers in historic Culver City .

Tina's shop is more an environment than a store. The smell of incense burning and music playing in a space that feels to me like an old theater from days gone by, stirs things deep inside me I have not felt for a long time.

She is a magical delicious Queen of Wands who leads with her heart and thinks in colors, textures and melodic nuance. She is the kind of "shop proprietress" who believes that shopping is an exchange of energy. The items in her store are selected with a keen eye for detail and are infused with the mystical . Shopping with Tina is a journey into your own imagination.

Buster's Baskets and Flowers is more than a gift shop. It is a center for healing arts and artists to meet and enjoy sharing knowledge. The performance space is used for fashion shows, poetry readings,yoga and meditation classes and workshops of many kinds.

In a time when we need it most Tina is creating community. A place to meet and play. Conversations about life and art. A place where whimsy is sacred.

Many local artists are represented in her collection of treasures. Events range from Feng Shui workshops and Vintage fashion shows to Japanese Rakgo Storytelling and Oscar Night Parties. A full calendar of events is always underway including my favorite event LADIES NIGHT, late night shopping with just the girls. I love vintage clothing. Nothing is more fun than going through the racks of hard to find one of a kind vintage attire and finding that perfect garment you just can't live without.

Out of the Shadows

I haven't blogged for a long time. I guess it is these times we are living in. LOL What are these times? It's our life for goodness sake! This is not the dress rehearsal.

I was moved beyond compare by the talent and courage of Susan Boyle. She stepped out of the shadows and has in a moment of courage splashed all over the world with her huge heart and wonderful talent. She is 47 years old. She has been singing since she was 12. She has never been kissed. She cared for her Mother till her Mothers death at age 91. She lives alone with her cats. Her church didn't even know she could sing. She has now stepped out to world wide recognition for her talent, courage and is an inspiration to many.

I challenge all of us to step out in an act of courage.

What is your dream? How have you held yourself back? This has been a time of reflection for me and has inspired me to step out of the shadows in every way. This a wonderful time to be alive. Whatever you believe and hold dear may today be the day that you step out of the shadows and shine.

Well I'm so excited to tell you I have joined a new network. It's called Etsy Bo Ho.

Altered art meets my hippie soul. Debbie of Cozy Cottage Gifts and Decor has opened a new store called Patchouli Rose. To be in touch with kindred spirits she started a ning network to bring all of us old hippies together to share our ideas and show of our goodies.

"All boho enthusiasts and gypsies at heart are invited to join my new Ning at Etsy Boho. Come join us for discussions and ideas about boho lifestyle, fashion, decor and creativity! " says Debbie.

You don't have to sell on etsy. It's for everyone.

It is an inspired idea and a fun place to visit. I was amazed at how fast it is growing . I have seen some delicious things that are being made all over the planet. This group is very far reaching. I am pleased to tell you I am member number 6 and more have followed.

It has the mellow lovely energy that Debbie brings to everything she does with a big splash of Gypsy. You know in a moments notice anyone of us could be dancing with a velvet scarf!

I will be putting these items in my web site and developing more. I am working on new things for my shop all with that altered fashion feeling.

"Good Taste" from the dollar store!

I had a fun find at the dollar store today. I have been looking for a give away to include in my shipments that would be a reasonable price and fun to receive. I found these vintage replica Coca Cola playing cards. They won't add weight to the package. I couldn't put mine away!Go on light something up)

I was so pleased to find something that fit my needs so perfect.

I bought somethings at Make Mine Pink with a gift certificate I received for Christmas. the next set of pictures are some of those goodies. The yellow magnolia planter is my new piece of Mc Coy from Cupid's Vintage Attic. It was one color I didn't have in my collection. I love Mc Coy and this piece is a great addition.

I also bought the creme candle holders and the creme planter. The planter is Mc Coy and the candle holders say made in Japan. I'm not a purest I just go by what pleases me visually. I had seen these items when I first joined MMP. I never forgot them and when I went back to shop I found they were still there. I was so thrilled.

I also bought a couple things from sweet Pamela at Preserves Cottage.http://www.preservecottage.com/home.html She sent a lovely package of coffee as my gift with purchase. That got me thinking about how much impact a give away has on a customer, I felt so special . That little somethin' somethin' has power! Thanks Pamela.

I love my new plaster of Paris fruit and little green planter. They add a lovely touch to my kitchen. I will be posting on Wednesday what I learned about photography taking the pictures for this post. I want share the things I am learning about having a photographic eye. It is great fun.

Sweet little book from Petite Book Store.

I have been rocking the blog contests this past month. I won the blog contest at the Petite Book Store! My prize was a book I really wanted and I was so thrilled to receive. It came when I needed the lift. Just before Christmas when I was exhausted from all I had to do this wonderful book arrived and inspired my "White Christmas".

I love white. Snow images and simple green and white combinations really satisfy my eye. This book is filled with them.

Here are some of my favorite pictures from the book.

I'll give you a tip on photographing the pages in a book. Look at the place the light falls on the page. See the little glowing section in this picture, that is not in the original shot in the book. That is where the light fell on the book when I was photographing it. It is called a "hot spot". The spot where the light reflects on the page. To correct it keep moving the book till the hot spot disappears.

This also happens when you are photographing pictures with glass in them. The glass reflects the light . It also can work like a mirror and you will see your image in the glass. I learned this when photographing pictures for my site only to find my image in my pajamas in the photograph.

LOL Even a cute pair of pajamas don't work. LOL Make sure when you look at the shot before you take it to step out of the shot and don't get caught in the reflection.

This is what is called getting an eye for photography. As artists we have to change our eye from the work of art to our photographic eye. It will save you hours of editing. I am developing my photographic eye.

These lovely stockings are a good example of what I learned from the first shot . I tipped the book till I got a true reading on the page. All of the nuance was that of the original photographer and not my mistake. Looking at books like this one is helping develop my photographic eye. I love the pictures in this book. They really inspire me.
Tedi of the Petite Book store has wonderful presentation and branding. The book came beautifully wrapped in white tissue paper. I was so delighted , I went to her site and ordered another book I had seen and felt I just could not live with out.

The second book came in a sweet cloth bag tied with a purple bow. Inside the book was this wonderful book mark. The book was wrapped like a gift in white tissue tied with a matching purple bow.

I just love her card! So whimsical.

It's all about the Whimsy!

I am huge fan of whimsy. I think that the world gets too serious sometimes. Yes it is good to take responsibility and be accountable. It is also important to be silly, have fun, and engage the magical feelings revealed through whimsy.

I had so much fun. I felt like a little girl who still believed in fairy princesses and knights in shinning amour. Women view shopping as entertainment. This web site is a delicious on line magazine . The products are feminine and fantasy oriented. The presentation is dazzling and more fun than anything I have seen so far. I was completely entertained.

This is a close up from a full size wreathe filled with elegant treasures and a touch of humor for the Marie Antoinette fans.

You have to go see Marie and Louis. They gave me a giggle.

Now I must be honest, I have never understood the whole faux desert thing. Desert as decor eludes me. I want to eat them! These made me a fan for sure. I can think of a million things I could decorate with these little bon bons.

I remember a package I received as a 5 year old. It had some little pink butterfly's like this one on it. Now that was 46 years ago and still remember how captivated I was by those sweet little butterflies. They are vivid in my minds eye.

The New Year is waiting in the wings. The holidays have come and gone and the promise of spring is in my heart and on my mind.

What do I need to do to end this year and begin the new one?

Nothing really it is just going to happen. That is the beauty of life. It just keeps moving forward.

The sand of time waits for no one.

Refection brings me to a new place. A magical place of evaluation. A place where I get the opportunity to release the unwanted and decide what I will keep as an active energy in my life now.

The most important thing that I have learned in 2008 is compassion. I have compassion for myself which allows me to be more compassionate with others.

I always thought of myself as a compassionate person but a deepening understanding has shown me ways that I may improve .

I choose to release the voice in my head that has harsh words for anyone or anything, including myself.

I stand arms spread wide. I welcome love. I forgive every error of the past and commit to happiness.

I release who I thought I was suppose to be and commit to authenticity. This will change the way I do everything. It will bring ease and grace.

Thank you all for your contributions to my life in 2008. I want to start listing but I don't want to leave one of you out. So I ask that you remember what we have shared in 2008 and know that my life has been better for having known you and shared a part of this earth time with you.

I am so grateful for the whimsy. I respect the knowledge shared. I am stronger for seeing your courage. I bless you all for the open sharing of your stories and your lives.

We are powerful beings. May your minds be clear and your hearts be full of perfect creative expression. Most of all I send you love. Let's all have a New Year filled with the best that life has to offer.

It's not the gift it's the wrap that counts.

In my family gift wrap is a big deal. My sweet Mother was the best at gift wrap. Always used real satin ribbon and no store bought bows. Her packages were so beautiful that when I was a little girl I never wanted to open them. She would laugh and say " For heaven's sake Debra just tear the paper." I would open them so careful so I could save the pretty paper.

My Aunt worked in the gift wrap department of a department store downtown Elgin, Illinois so she had all the fancy package decorations. I still have package decoration that came on packages from my Aunt. I use them on my tree.

My sister also worked in the gift wrap department of ZCMI in Utah. When she changed departments and became the toys buyer people came looking for her at Christmas because it just wasn't the same without her cheerful wrapping.

My sister is not decorating this year for Christmas. She lived with my Mother and since this is our first year with out my Mom she just can't face all the memories the ornaments hold. So I decided to do over the top packages and send them to my sister so she can place them around the house for decorations and after we open them on Christmas morning her house will be all undecorated for her again.
Now my Mom has a storage shed FULL of decorations. My Mom was Martha Stewart with a dash of real elegance. Everyone I know has a center piece or wreathe by my Mom.

In spring when the holiday has pasted my sister and I are going to open that shed. There are boxes in there that have not been opened in years! It will be fun but probably a little melancholy as well. Two sisters bonding over Christmas past. We are going to do it when the sun is shinning and the pool is open so we can go swimming after.

This year I didn't unpack my old decorations for the same reasons. Too many memories. Next year I'll take them out again.

The Power of The Vision Board

I have a vision board and as most of you know my first published interview was with Joyce Schwarz the author of The Vision Board/The Secret to an Extraordinary Life.

That for me was a dream come true. I have been writing for a very short time. It was a big deal to me to get and do an interview with someone so successful. Someone who is published and a book that is at the core of my belief system.

I am a believer in the power of our minds as tools to attract to our experience the things we most desire. I went to classes for 5 years and am a licenced Spiritual Mind Practitioner.

The Centers for Spiritual Living teach that God is with in and our belief is creative. They teach that we live in a cause and effect world. The cause is our belief or thought and the effect is our life.

Practitioners work with people to help them clear up the things they believe. They do a form of prayer called " affirmative prayer" . I don't ask from an outside God , I reveal things from an inside God. I claim the good that I desire. People say " Seeing is believing" I say " Believing is seeing".

I support your spiritual journey what ever you believe. There is one God and many paths to understanding. Not one right way , but many ways to realize the power of God.

I have just started using a vision board. I don't believe the images on my board have power but that what those images bring to my mind does.

I posted a picture of a woman dressed in vintage clothing on my board because I am working to change my business from a mish mash of all kinds of things to a store of beautiful, affordable clothing. Vintage styles and accessories with a touch of home decor.

At the time I put the picture on my board I didn't notice the mantle so much. But everyday I was looking at the picture and believing this or better would be mine.

I have a friend who is an artist and an interior decorator. He did a home that was shabby chic. It was becoming a modern home.The lady wanted him to just get the things she didn't want out of the house.

I was the lucky one to receive a new white rug with pink and blue flowers and a wonderful plaster mantle. I had a rug that was an old black and red Persian rug. It was a good rug but did not reflect my taste. I am a cross between shabby chic and ultra modern.

I live in an upstairs apartment and must cover my floors 80%. When I ripped out the carpet to reveal the hardwood I had to put a rug down and the black one is what appeared.

I fine tuned my desire and began talking about and visioning a light lovely rug. I started clearing and cleaning and decorating as though the rug were light. I finally picked up the black rug and put down an $14 rag rug in beige just to have the feel I wanted. I was not in a position to buy a new rug of any value.

Then the items came. I also received the left over paint and it is a wonderful Tiffany blue. I started to look at the picture on my vision board and realized she was leaning on a mantle in a Tiffany blue room. I never dreamed of a beautiful white mantle but the image went into my subconscious mind so clearly that it appeared, at a price I could afford, FREE. That picture embodied a feeling I wanted about my life and work.

I am a red head, she is a red head. I started looking at the picture and realized I could create that look with the things I already had. Another one of my clients had some old art work they wanted out of the garage so they could park in it. I received a wonderful 50's painting of Paris. I have a picture of Paris on my vision board.

OK here is my point, it is easy for me to believe in my ability to attract things. I have a nack for it. I just have to get the nack for attracting the qualities of life I desire. No matter how much I have studied building the consciousness of success is still a daily job. If i can attract things I can attract success.

That is where you all come in. My girls at Make Mine Pink keep me on track. You help me believe I can be a success even when I don't believe it. We all want sales, but the measure of success for me can't be on sales alone. I am fine tuning my consciousness of success and you better believe that customers who want what I have is going on my vision board right after I push print on this post!!! LOL

This is for the purest. Yes we love pink and in my case blue but some people just love traditional holiday decorations . I created this for them. I know it isn't my usual look but I wanted to provide something that could be sent as a gift to someone who loves the red and green. It has roses....LOL

You will find great gifts and you can shop from home while sipping coffee in your bathrobe. That is what I call a stress free holiday!

In Southern California people are obsessed with beige. Homes are all creme color and muted shades of beige with black accents. Shabby Chic has almost disappeared.
Once you get out of Beverly Hills you start to see color again. I always say I live so close to Beverly Hills you can smell the botox! LOL

The book signing would be my first chance to infuse a beige world with the color of success, PINK.

Digital Hollywood is a big event. It is filled with deal makers and Hollywood new comers looking to meet the deal makers. You have the pros and the "fringe" ( people looking to get in the loop) It's a sea of "Let's do lunch" Personally I don't "do" lunch, I eat lunch.LOL No one has an empty hand, they are filled with business cards , the ones you are giving out and the ones you are receiving from everyone. Horns are tooting loud and fast all over the place. It is a good buzz of energy.
The event was by the pool at the Loew's Hotel in Santa Monica. I had to park down the block at a different hotel, they had no parking left at Loew's and I got there an hour early. I was the first to arrive at the event and the hotel had not gotten the tables set up. a couple of the other ladies and I rallied the waiters and got the show on the road. We set up tables with white cloths and I staked out my spot and set up. You could feel the nervous energy of everyone wanting to do a great auction.

This is an interview going on with Dr. Susan Block. I really hit it off with her. She is a real character. A vision in purple! The boots were a dark purple patten leather and her jacket was a lovely cut velvet. She is a hat lady and so am I. Her dress has a beautiful broach at the breast, I told her to check out Make Mine Pink for great vintage hats and broaches. I ,of course, gave her a card.

The hostess of the event was caught in traffic , no one knew what to do and where to set things up. But life is what happens while you are making other plans and I remained calm and made friends. I had to move my display several times. Every obstacle became an opportunity to talk about the product and Make Mine Pink. Ladies I am so proud of all of you and what we do, it was easy and my pitch got better with every set up. Opportunity disguised as chaos.

These darling ladies are from the World Trust. Tess Cacciatore is the founder and Executive director (Tess is the blond in the middle.) The World Trust sponsors programs for the empowerment of youth. Check them out at http://www.worldtrust.org/ . They were also part of the auction and Tess has a vision board that is featured in the book.

These are a couple of shots of things they had to auction. (not the cute guy, the scooter LOL) and a wonderful bracelet, ( that picture was for you Gail) along with cruises and video games and many lovely things.

The author Joyce Schwarz arrived , God bless her, she must have been beside herself having to park down the block and walk to the hotel after being stuck in traffic and rush in late. This is Joyce signing books. She signed mine,"To Lilli, Who shares the vision ? Lilli and Joyce do!"

I got a chance to meet so many people and hear who they were and talk about Make Mine Pink. The next gal was a doll. She had used a vision board to loose 100 pounds. She carried a photo of her former self in her purse and showed me the "before" shot. What a bright light this gal has, her name is Donna Kosik, her story is on page 154 of the book. I fell in love with her. Her energy was so happy!

I got to meet the founder of My Inspiration Lounge. I had seen her on a blog and there she was in person. I loved the sea gull. He knew who he was, one proud bird. ( I took this one for you Inka)That was me girls, one proud bird.

I am so proud of what we do at Make Mine Pink and the way we do it. I can recommend any one of you with confidence that excellence will be their experience. Beautiful products and amazing presentation.

This is Rene'e Piane , she has a company called Rapid Dating. She fell in love with the Bobby Trap so we took a picture of her with the basket and set the intention that she would win it! I can't wait to hear if she got it. I promised her if she didn't win it I knew where she could get more! LOL She met her husband using her own techniques. He was such a doll and sooo handsome. You could tell they were really in love.

I could go on and on . I know this is a long post but I wanted to share my exciting day with you. I have found new ways to promote myself and Make Mine Pink. From the top down you are a delight to me and everyone I share your sites with is in for a treat.

Just a quick post with a bunch of pictures this week. I am doing a big event tomorrow and promoting shopping at MMP. Funny how I was asked to create a couple gift baskets for the event and this Pink Friday is called In the Basket! LOL

Joyce Schwarz wrote a book on vision boards. It's called The Vision Board /The Secret to an Extrordinary Life.

The first is a basket with a copy of her book in it and a bunch of goodies representing MMP on my vision board. The money goes to cancer victims and I wanted to pass my vision on to someone who needs a new out look. I love my board but I felt it had a higher purpose.

Second is a Booby Trap with a evening bag from Barney's of New York and a crystal heart trinket box with Pat's pot pourri spread in the bottom.( lesson for those doing photos.... don't photograph basket with the cellophane on them. Big shine issue. Do photos before cello. Learn from my mistakes . LOL)

And last are photos of what I call Happy Pillows. They are big, fluffy and soft. I have used documentary prints of vintage fabric in rich linens. I love them ,they make me happy. I love to give them to people when they need a lift.

I have a question. I have more of each of these fabric. I was thinking of making slip covers for my site out of the fabrics. Easy to ship. Great way to repurpose and old bed pillow.

Here is my question, is it too unsatisfying to buy a pillow with no stuffing? Would I be better off filling them? I know I get a real charge out of stuffing them but slip covers are much more practical to ship. What do you think?

This week end I spent house sitting. I thought I would share pictures of his critters and the wonderful back yard! First is Jack. Jack was at my side every minute and Launi was way to busy of a girl to worry about me. She is as sweet as can be but very independent. Tommy is a really BIG kitty. He slept with me every night. A true cuddly kitten.

Michael's yard is a touch of Hawaii in Southern California. The pool was amazing and I swam every day!

I have a home office. Many of you do as well. I don't have a board room , or a war room , I have a think tank. It's my bathroom tub!

The Art of Friendship

I am so blessed to have a wonderful friend who is an artist. James Richardson is the creator of Booby Traps the wearable art creations featured on my web site http://www.lillibluesvintagerescues.mybisi.com/ .

James is a New Yorker living and creating art in Los Angeles. His studio is on Abbott Kinney the Grenich Village of the West Coast. He is a modern artist with so much style and the king of whimsy.

This week I am featuring his art work for my show and tell. Just want you all to get to see the wonderful things he creates.

James is a good friend. He keeps me laughing and thinking in a positive way. His work is fun! He uses bright colors and is a master with a hot glue gun! LOL

Theses paintings are part of the art show he is doing this week to benefit MS research.
James has supported me through some of the toughest times in my life. He is always up for an adventure like going down to the flower mart at the crack of dawn or gluing a million rhinestones to something just to make it sparkle. Shopping at the Roadside Boutique!

Those of you who know me know that I have a way with dumpsters. It is not the most delicate of my pass times but it has a sweet new name "The Roadside Boutique". I can't remember which of my dear friends came up with that (was it you Inka?) but if it is you leave a comment and I will give you credit for a glamorous name to my garbage addiction.

I found this old chair out by the trash bin behind my house. She seemed to call 'Rescue me"as I got in my car. When I came home to find her still sitting with her shabby arms and tired old faded fabric... well she ended up in my work room.

I have a large collection of fabric samples. A friend's Mom used to save them so they wouldn't end up in the land fill and give them to me. For years I have made the most lovely colorful things from these squares.

This is the tag off the collection of samples I used for this project. A wonderful chintz stripe in several different colors. I never recovered a chair before. Oh... I have done the seat of a kitchen chair but never a whole chair.

The blond wood chairs were also out by the bin in the back. I have 4 of them and the matching magazine rack and book shelf. Each day a new piece appeared and each day I carried them up to my work room. The Law of attraction was providing me with new furniture! I just love that. The final result was a great new look for my work room and a wonderful purpose for my documentary print sample squares. This whole project cost me $3.75 for a box of little nails and gave me a wonderful sense of satisfaction.
It isn't perfect but it works. LOL Hot glue and nails and a great determination to do it were my tools.

My vision board was a gift from my secret sister Katie. I love it! Thanks Katie, it is now one of my favorite things. I will be adding to it and hanging it proudly on the wall when the room is finished. Note that I put the tag from the fabric on the vision board to inspire me all along the way. Stay tuned and you will see the final result as this room gets a paint job and is turned into a great place to create treasures for Lilli Blue's Vintage Rescues . Trash to Treasure

I share a dumpster with the mini mall behind me. In the mall is an alterations shop called Valentina's. This woman does beautiful work and is known all around town.

About a week ago when I took out the trash I found the most beautiful scraps of fabric on the top of the dumpster. The fabric was all from beautiful beaded evening gowns. I carefully picked them out. I had no idea what I would do with them but I had to rescue them.

I have been cleaning and organizing my supplies. I found the scraps the other night and this is the idea I came up with. They are not finished but I thought I would give you a preview of what I have been working on.

I'm making greeting card with matching gift tags. I have made some satin gift bags and these will complete the sets I hope you enjoy them!

This Pink Friday is "Bling" it should be an exciting event and sparkling things all around!

The last thing I would like to share is a great piece from my vision board. This was created by my favorite altered art artist, Carrie of Noelle Garrett Designs. I have written about her before. Her work is elegant and detailed. She sees in a way that is special and all her own. This tag is a gift I cherish. She is a lovely lady and has become my friend. Thrift Store Heaven

Last week Tom and I took a road trip not to far from home but just far enough to leave our worries behind.

Ventura, California still has great shopping. I visited many Antique Malls but one really stood out as a great place to shop.

When I walked in Neil Young was singing in the background and the owner , a friendly man who had an air of x hippie to him named David greeted me from behind a desk covered with papers. Among the papers were a child's drawing, it stood out reminding me that we are all old enough to be grand parents now. I am officially vintage. 50 years on the planet. I'm a collectible. LOL

It was a trip down memory lane for me. I first came to Ventura years ago in the late 80's with a girl friend to shop for the day before returning back to L.A. with bags full of vintage finds and wonderful cloths .

We would have lunch on the pier and then hit the thrift stores. You can never really recapture the past but I was looking forward to today's version of that experience.

The vintage finds were harder to find now. Prices seemed higher I do believe that Make Mine Pink has spoiled me . The vintage goodies at Make Mine Pink are the best you can find now. For everything I saw I remembered a shop at MMP that had something just as wonderful at a better price.

The Ventura Antique Market was the only place that could compete.

I saw so many wonderful unusual things. This crazy doll looked like Lucy dressed as Carmen Miranda!

I fell in love with this painting of a woman with a bird resting on her arm. It had an old world charm that took me out of 2008 and sent me back in time. I guess that was the best thing about this shop. I was constantly transported to another time.

My body was flooded with memories of friends and loved ones long gone. I was buzzing with memories of myself at different times in my life. I saw a bowl and pitcher set from Avon and I remembered opening that very set on Christmas as a new item when I was about 12 years old. Now it is a vintage find! LOL Well retro at least.

I shared a moment with Dave that neither one of us will forget. He was such a great man . The gentle way he honored my moment.

I have been talking about my Mom a lot lately and her presence is very strong. I have a feeling she is trying to get my attention from the spirit world. If that makes me sound like a nut... I'm good with that because it is my truth. I don't believe in death I believe life takes another form.

Well I have a tea set my Mom gave me when she knew she was passing. It is wonderful ,so her. Autum colors, leaves and berries.

Before I left on the trip one of the plates to the set broke. It made me feel sad. They are very expensive on Replacements .com. and they didn't have the one I broke. Later in the day I was at a local thrift store and from out of the back one of the workers came with a stack of dishes. They were 99cents each and they were all the desert dishes to the set Mom gave me! All 6 in mint condition. Of course I bought them.

In the antique mall while I was enjoying all the goodies and listening to all the music of my youth I could feel my Mother. She would have loved to do this with me and what I believe is that she was, I walked into a booth and there were those dishes again. This is old German China what are the chances I would see it so many times in one week? I turned to Dave and told him the story I had just told you. I didn't really need more plates but these were the luncheon plates to go with my desert dishes so I was going to at least look. On the back of the plate was my name. My given name is "Debra" the name of this line of china was "Debra". My dishes at home did not have this on them.

I burst into tears. I realized Mom is never going to be very far away again . She will always be shopping with me and this was a really clear message. The physical world separated us with miles but spirit is with out boundaries. She was there and I allowed myself to feel her presence full on.

I didn't buy the dishes. They could not bring me any closer to Mom in owning them. I did however understand they were a tool in my healing and the development of my eternal connection with the spirit of my Mom.

I kept snapping pictures of things I thought you would enjoy seeing. These next photos were taken in a shop that requested I stop taking pictures. I honored the request and agreed not to name the shop but I had to share the photos for the sake of saying whimsy is alive and well in Ventura, California!The hotel we stayed in was located behind the historic district of Ventura. These wonderful old houses were a few that I enjoyed seeing. One of them, my favorite was for lease. It reminded me that things I dream of do become available and exist in the world.

I went to the thrift store and returned to my hotel room with several bags filled with wonderful clothing. When I did the fashion show for my boyfriend he was so surprised to hear that the 6 shirts I bought him and the 12 things I bought myself only cost $36.00! I have not lost my eye for great clothing finds and I have not lost my love of Ventura thrift stores!

These lovely little masks caught my heart and I went back and asked if I could photograph them. The father of the children gave me permission with such a sense of pride. I love this photo. When I looked in the window as I walked by several people were living in a studio apartment. You got the sense that even though they didn't have much they had what was important love and creativity. Sweet memories of this trip to Ventura and a reminder to cherish what I have right now.

I have been tagged by Debbie of Cozy Cottage. OK ..... I'll Show and Tell! LOL I am to tell you 7 strange and /or random things about myself. I have given this much thought. So here goes.......

1- My first kiss was Tom Jones.

2- My mother and I made a pack that she would contact me after she passed by using the song "Autumn Leaves". I have been playing Debbie's music from her blog while I am writing this and wouldn't you know that as I type this the song Autumn Leaves came on in her line up of songs from her blog. I am so awed. All I can say is "Hi Mom" and Thanks Deb!

3-Brace yourselves for this one....are you ready... my favorite color is not PINK. I know..... after the smelling salts get passed around I'll tell you that I love green. All kinds of green. My engagement ring was not a diamond but an emerald.

4-My favorite affirmation is " Don't wait for your dreams to come true. Your dreams are waiting for you to come true."

I had a friend who was a character actress. Her name was Kathleen Friedman. She was in all the Jerry Lewis movies. You would know her face in a moment if you saw her she worked all the time. She sang in the choir with me at church. Even though she had great success she always had wanted to be on Broadway.

Long before " The Secret" we studied The Science of Mind together at our church. She was a Practitioner. That is something you have to study for 3 years to achieve.

She set the intention that she would be on Broadway. She was a powerful clear thinking woman. A friend of hers was offered a part in a little play in San Diego called " The Full Monty" the friend did not want to do the play so she recommended Kathleen. Kathleen took the part because it sounded like fun even though it was just a small part.

The play was a big hit and went to Broadway and Kathleen was nominated for a Tony Award for her role. They invited her to do her number from the show on the Tony's. Kathleen was in a hit show on Broadway the day she passed away. She was living the dream. She is the one who gave me that affirmation. Everyday to the best of my ability I "come true".

5- I lost a job as a showgirl in the Follies Bergere because I am afraid of heights. The opening number starts at the top of hundreds of stairs and I was afraid to walk down them. They made the stairs really small so it would look like there were more of them and my foot was bigger than the step. I was so afraid of those darn steps. I tried to act cool but they could see me shaking all over.

The girl that got the job fell down those stairs during her first show and broke her leg. By the time I got the call that I could be her replacement I had already moved to L.A. Years later I ended up working as the assistant to the director of the Follies. He lived here in Los Angeles. I guess when you are meant to do something it doesn't matter what you do it comes to you.

6-My first pet was a black and white rabbit named Freckles.

7-I didn't learn to drive a car till I was 40. I got my drivers licence on my 40Th birthday!

Late to the party! Show and Tell Monday

Well I'm a little late but I wanted to join the fun and show you some of the cute new eco friendly gift bags I am making.

I found a bunch of lace fabric samples and made them into 7 by 5 inch draw string bags. each one has a ribbon pull and a piece of coordinating tissue folded inside. I will make some matching tags as well.

I am working on a project with Marie of Savon Marie . Marie makes the most wonderful bath and body products.

We are joining forces and creating a SPECTACULAR give away so we will keep you posted on "Pink sisters supporting pink sisters."

He met me right when my Mom was in the final stages of her life. At a time when most men would have run for their lives, this man held me close and supported me through the worst of times. He has been a true friend and is the driving force behind my entire Lilli Blue project.

He taught me how to use the camera and gave me one to use. How to use the computer and loaned me a lap top so I could get started.

Best of all he makes me laugh and helps me keep perspective when life gets crazy tough.

City Girls Garden Path

" My garden is my spa, it has all the mud, steam and sun a girl could ask for....." My garden path is a flight of stairs to an old 20's apartment tucked in the back of a four plex in the heart of Los Angeles.

I live in what is called a Beverly Hills adjacent. Which means I'm not really in Beverly Hills but I'm so close you can smell the botox. LOL

I've lived here 20 years this October. I am the only one left of the original tenants from when I moved in all those years ago. The building was purchased by a woman who had cancer. She was a nurse at U.C. L. A. and she bought the building for her four children. An apartment for each one them. She wanted to make sure her children always had a place to live.

Well she has given me a home for 20 years. I have seen many come and go in that time and each one passing through has been a wonderful contribution to my life. Sometimes a friend and sometimes a lesson in patience but each time someone who has taught me something of value.

I used to have a big back yard but when the building sold about 10 years ago they paved the back yard and built another apartment building on the land.

It took a long time to get over the loss and I have thought of moving many times but could never say good bye to this place where I feel so safe.

I have a little balcony I lovingly call the "cat condo". It has a round foot stool where Lulah and Jewels and all the cats before them sun their furry little bottoms . This is where my garden lives. I dig and plant in my balcony garden.

One year a humming bird built a nest in the tree outside my window. The possums and squirrels have moved deeper in now but they used to make a in my tree every spring. A big tree covers my front window and I love the bird show. City birds, excuse me, Beverly Hills adjacent birds! LOL

Boobie Traps

James Richardson is the founder of Bobbie Trap. I am featuring his creations in my Little Pink Boutique.

Wearable art that is all about whimsy is James' specialty. He creates wonderful colorful bodices and brassieres that may be worn or used to decorate anything! Last weekend for his art show entitled "Paintings for the Planet" we used Boobie Traps for the baskets that held napkins and paper plates. An entire wall was covered in these fun pieces.

Paintings for the Planet was a benefit for The Orion Project. The Orion project is doing research and development of alternative energy sources in the private sector. Imagine a world with free energy!

Satins, lace. flowers.beads, pearls and sequins...these are a few of my favorites.

This week Make Mine Pink is hosting a shop hop on Pink Friday that will bring out the best of the best. It is called Romantically Roses. I am so excited to see what is offered.

Yellow roses always make me think of Fanny Brice in Funny Girl. Barbara Streisand singing "Don't rain on my Parade" at the end of that tug boat.

I saw that movie 14 times and never got tired of that wonderful image of her holding all those yellow roses.

A Positively Pink Sister

I wonder sometimes if we really know each other through the channels of forums and on line networking. How much do we connect?

Well today I received a package that was so well thought out you would think it had come from someone who had known me my whole life.

At first I thought it was my Secret Sister package from the gift exchange we are doing at Make Mine Pink. It wasn't. It was a surprise gift of love from Carrie Noelle Garrett. We have become friends on the forums at Make Mine Pink. We encourage each other to stay the course and keep our visions clear.

This lovely journal arrived just when I needed it. A gift reminding me to keep my vision clear. It could not be more perfect for me.

I love 40's floral and the background is all my favorite colors. My name is printed on the front with the caption "Take the road less traveled"

A little high heel shoe medallion is above the name. I love high heel shoes even though I am six feet tall . I have a huge shoe fetish.

But what really got me was when I opened it up. It says on the inside cover..........

This is a quote from my article about my Mom.

It is something my Mom used to say to me when I would get discouraged. I have not really been able to cry since my Mom passed away. This made me cry. A good clean cry of release. A good cry of joy knowing that I will find new love in the world even though Mom is not with me any more she is sending angels like Carrie to keep the light on my path. I think we connect in amazing ways and know each other well. Heart to heart we create great friendships out here in cyber space.

With My Mothers Eyes

My mother gave me many of the pieces I am posting today. I had no idea how much she is a part of me. I always knew we were close. But I didn't realize I was an extension of her.

She did. She was a natural mystic. She never read books about it or studied like I have, it was just her nature. She had a fine tuned intuition that was so powerful and accurate that all she had to do was think something and you knew it. I remember her doing something she called "sending mental messages". She wanted my brother to call home and my mother ,my sister and I sat in the living room and concentrated (sent mental messages) to my brother to call home. In just a couple minutes he called. I grew up thinking everyone did that!

Joyce reminds me of the qualities of my Mom. Mom helped women to become more than they thought they could be. She was the manager of the gift shop in Ceasars Palace Hotel in Las Vegas.

She had three shifts of women who worked for her. They all loved and respected her. She was tough but kind.

One year at Christmas she was working with a group of women on inventory for the shop. She was so proud of them she told them she would bake each of them one of her famous rum cakes.(It was crazy good like Clutter Bug fudge) she told them to bring her the rum and she would buy everything else.

When she came in to work the next day she went in her office and found a case of rum. She thought it was a joke and laughed so hard the girls came running in to her office to see what was up. She told them "Very funny girls" they said "What?" she said "The rum, where did you get all that?" They all were silent and handed her the list. It had 18 names on it. She howled. "I can't make 18 rum cakes. I'll be baking every waking moment till Christmas!!! I will bake one for each of the three girls that did inventory and one for everyone else to share!"

Through out the day begging began. One girl even got down on her knees and begged in the shop.Mother who was very dignified got all flustered. " It's just cake! My goodness girls get over it!"

It wasn't just cake. It was the way my mother did everything. She had grace and elegance. Her florals and wreathes are famous amongst the people who knew her. Always the most tailored elegant look. Nothing fussy,clean beautiful lines and colors. Her cake was the same. Rich delicious pound cake with some special drizzle. We never figured out just what was in it. That was her secret and it died with her. I think it was different everytime.

She found mini loaf pans and made mini cakes. I believe it was 18 mini cakes. She complained that they would never be as good because it was all in the pan but no one else complained.

I wish I had a picture but I didn't know how to use a digital camera when my Mom was alive.

She would have loved what I am doing with Make Mine Pink. She would also tell me that " You can do anything if you put your mind to it!"

This has been a tough week. So many things seemed to just go wrong. It is the voice of my mother in my head and in my heart that keeps me going. It is the spirit of Make Mine Pink that makes me not give up. I don't know what my niche is and I don't know what to do next but I know that giving up is not an option .

I'm the daughter of a natural mystic. I will tune in to my intuition. What I offer for Pink Friday will come from that. For now I will just share with you the beautiful things from my collection that bring me pleasure and hold the memories of the greatest real lady I have ever known. It's Show and Tell Monday!

These are a few of my favorite things! Like Pink Fridays at Make Mine Pink!Visit us this friday for all things related to tea parties!

Well I stopped at a yard sale today. I spent $19.00 and I bought several things. A David Dart suit for my girlfriend Rebecca and another little suit in a purple gause. It will be great for the summer..also for Rebecca. I got a bust of a Flamico dancer. (She needs a little work on her forhead.)A really beautiful silver cigar band ring and my favorite of the whole sale a box of old buttons.

I just can't resist that old jar or cookie tin filled with old buttons.I feel like a child .Sitting on the bed sorting and looking at them.

The colors and shapes. are soothing and pleasant to me, I know you know what I'm talking about.

When life gets tough and the endless complaining about the economy gets to me I am grateful that a $2 box of buttons can bring me so much pleasure.

This is a rare photo. Her name is Lulah. Every time I point the camera at her she runs and hides so I never get shots of her.

Jewels on the other hand poses for pictures.He is the orange and white kitty in the slide show.

I live in L.A.in an apartment (the building is pink.Can you believe I just realized that!ha ha ha Oh Inka!) It isn't really busy on my street but it is

city.

Jewels is big on hunting, actually gathering he always brings his catch up alive. I have gotten very good at catching mice and the like and putting them out on the balcony to save them from cat games.

One night last year my cat Jewels and I heard this meowing. Little tiny "meeeuuus." But when ever I ran down the stairs to try and see where it was coming from. It stopped.

I finally gave up trying to find it and went to bed. Then at about 3 a.m. I heard some very loud screaming kitty sounds.I ran down stairs in my night gown to see what on earth was going on and there was Jewels with something in his mouth.

The little creature was kicking him in the head but he wouldn't let go of the catch. I shouted at him to put it down and there she was as tiny as a mouse. She was in full on Halloween cat mode. Every little hair on her tiny body standing on end all the way to the tip of her tail.She bolted.

Jewels stayed down stairs all night.he is such a loving creature.But when it was time for breakfast he gave up and came upstairs. Don't think that cat will ever miss a meal.

I heard the meowing and went down stairs one more time. This time she was so hungry and tired she let me pick her up.She was no bigger than the palm of my hand and skinny. I think she was about 5 weeks old.I brought her upstairs and gave her watered down cat food. She had little tiny teeth so she could eat. I thought I would find her a home.

Well you know how this story ends. I named her Tallulah after Tallulah Bankhead because she was so dramatic.Her name got shortened to Lulah.

That was just too much name for such a tiny little girl.

She got that round kitty look in a couple days and was healthy. She still won't let me touch her. But lately she has been coming into my bed at about 3am to get some cuddles. Once in a great while I get to pet her. She loves Jewels and comes when he calls her. Sometimes I have to tell him to leave her alone. He cleans her so much she will get soaking wet from licking.( I could hardly type that it was making me laugh so hard) So sweet.I'm patient and giving her all the time she needs.

This is a great lesson for me in business.Be patient and my business will warm up as well. Give it all the time it needs. But most of all don't get so crazy trying to make it happen that I lose sight of the joy in a $2 box of old buttons.

In the Kitchen! Look what's cookin'

We are always cookin' up somethin' at Make Mine Pink, This Friday we will feature items for the kitchen. Now we are in my territory!(you too huh Georgia) I am single and live alone. I have five sets of dishes. Love them , use them all, want more.

I use cloth napkins at every meal.(OK OK if I had kids I wouldn't .....just sayin') I love linens.

I guess I love a lot of things. I just get so much pleasure out of looking at certain things. Sometimes I go to the shops at Make Mine Pink and ooooo and ahhhhhh.(I still have dreams about a certain pink vase....hummmm) So... my pictures this week are my kitchen . Happy show and tell Monday. Hard Candy! Show and Tell

These days my candy jar is filled with hard bracelets or bangle bracelets. I love them.

Yesterday I received a gift of some new ones.They are so delicious. I want to eat them. I thought I'd share some pictures with you.

I still wear hard bracelets. I was so glad when I heard they were coming back into fashion.

I saw a new musical yesterday afternoon called "Love, Janis" It is a musical about Janis Joplin.All of the dialogue came from letters Janis wrote to her family while she was on the road.

These bracelets reminded me of the ones I wore back in the day. My good friend James brought them to me as a gift for the concert. Well I don't drink Southern Comfort out of a bottle anymore LOL but I do still love the music. These bracelets "got a little piece of my heart,baby" Happy Monday!

It's Show and Tell Monday!Make Mine Pink has been a most amazing experience for me.I have been thinking about how the time just flies when I am working on my Little Pink Boutique. All of the work is driven by my passion for clothing and people.

For many years I worked in the entertainment industry in costume design.It was such a thrill for me to see an actor react to the wardrobe I would find for their character.

I started out as an actress and a model.I worked for a company called California Talls by Robert. But my true love was dressing people. I can look at a person and look at a garment and know if it will fit. It is a crazy uncanny talent that I knew someday would translate into success of some kind.

I was in a play called "Sugar" it is the musical version of "Some Like IT Hot" You know the old movie with Marilyn Monroe, Jack Lemon and Tony Curtis.Well the costume designer was pregnant and the baby decided to premiere a week before opening night so the costumes were not finished.

I was playing the title role and when all the costumes arrived from one of those rental companies they did not fit me.(I am 6ft. tall) They really didn't fit anyone. So I took on the project of designing the new ones. I rearranged who would wear what and went to the thrift store to find things that would work for the rest of the cast.

It was set in the 50's so you couldn't just wear your own clothing it had to be period appropriate.I stayed up all night for many nights sewing and decorating. ( I drank a lot of coffee!). It was a blast. But the real thrill for me came when I was handing out the costumes to the other actors and saw how they got better at their parts once they put the costume on.

Great clothing can change the way you feel. I was a struggling actress and couldn't afford expensive clothing so I remade things from thrift stores.

I soon found everyone wanted cloths like I was finding.They would ask me where I got this or that and I would say "Oh...I rescued it from The Good Will" Lots of "ooos" and "ahhhs" and "no ways". My girlfriends all said they wanted to go with me but they just didn't have the desire to go through the racks like I did. After too many old polyester blouses and they would give up.So I started finding things for them.

For years people have said I should have my own shop. It was not in the cards till I found Make Mine Pink. Here is a place where my love for people and clothing come together.

I am picky. I want to sell only really great resale clothing.Great designers and only garments that had been gently worn. No stains or tears or signs of wear but beautiful crisp fun items at a price that is affordable.

I want every woman to have the kind of wardrobe she dreams of and feel beautiful everyday. If you have a family and a job that can mean your wardrobe comes last. But if you can buy a beautiful Armani Blouse for the price of a T shirt at Macy's do you care that it was previously enjoyed? I don't.

Everything at Lilli Blue's Vintage Rescue has been checked over carefully and cleaned so when you receive it has only truly gentle signs of use.Most things look new!

I am working on a web site but for now here is what's new!

This is a black suit, size 10 petite.Kasper is the designer. It is my favorite fabric. A beautiful lush matte georgette. It would make a great evening suit. Pearls or rhinestones could really dress it up, I love the way the buttons are hidden behind the panel. Sleek and very sexy!(In a good girl way LOL)

This a J Crew linen blouse. The button is a button cover and can be removed for cleaning. Also a size 10/12 a great addition to your summer wardrobe. Next are the Rubinesque items I have been promising.

Citron makes this green silk twin set. Size 3X. wonderful flow to the cut and a feeling of elegance. The fabric is 100% silk.It has a subtle Oriental pattern.The sleeveless shell underneath has little slits in the side so it hangs soft and moves with you.Next is a Dana Buchman Suit size 20. The pant has an elastic waist for comfort . Fully lined but in the softest matte georgette. It feels amazing. This suit was only worn once.Great for someone losing weight. The jacket is generous and the waist on the pant starts goes from 30 inches to a comfortable 42 inches.

It is a charcoal grey pin stripe.Light weight and so soft. This suit will travel well.Maybe toWilliamsburg with a pink corsage on it.

Happy Show and Tell Monday!

This is a big one for me because we are celebrating the opening of my Little Pink Boutique at Make Mine Pink.

All of the ladies at Make Mine Pink have been amazing. I am so grateful to all of you who have held my hand and taught me what I needed to know.

This needle point hand bag is a favorite of mine. It is stitched on the bottom with the name and date by the artist 1966.

These are beautiful little dresser dishes in the Empress pattern. One for rings and things and the square one is an ash tray.

Puss and Boots/ Land T. V. lamp. it is in perfect working order. Nothing like a great fairy tale kitty to light up your desk or dresser. Perfect for a child's room.He stands about 10 inches high and is begging for a designer lamp shade. I guess this will be my next project!

Show and tell Monday is here!

Well....it's Monday! After a busy week end of shooting and editing pictures I am ready to Show and Tell! I thought I would share with you some pictures of things I will have in my Little Pink Boutique.

First is a delicious pink beaded top by Calypso/Christiane Gelle .It's 100%pure silk . I love finds like this one. fantasy clothing is my favorite. Every woman should own a few pieces that have that princess energy and this one sure does!

This white cotton blouse is from BananaRepublic.The pattern is burnt cotton. You can see through the flowers.It would go great with a pair of jeans or cotton skirt.

Last is a silk velvetHarari jacket. 1x!I will be carrying clothing for womenwho look like Rubin paintings.Lush and beautiful at every size.You can eat the famous fudge and still wear this black and brown yummy jacket too!

Mother's Day

This will be the first Mother's Day since my Mom became an angel. What can I say about this amazing lady? I miss her so much. She always wanted me to write a story about her.

My mother was an amazing artist. She made the most beautiful floral arrangements and wreathes.She had a very clean style. She loved sophisticated elegance. Never wanted anything to look homey or home made.Her floral arrangements were grand and sweeping.

She worked with silk flowers and would joke about the fact that she could bend them to her will. She got to decide what direction they faced. LOL that was Mom.

Everyone I know has a wreathe made by my Mom. She made them and gave them away.

Last night I took a class in Floral design and we created this arrangement above. I thought of her all night.

On the way home from the class I spotted a trash bin brimming with the biggest wreath I ever saw. Just as I was writing this I realized it was a message from Mom.

It is very large. She is telling me to think BIG!Do you think it means anything that it is PINK ? My Mom always told me I could do anything if I put my mind to it. She was a force of nature and still is as far as I'm concerned.She would have loved that I am opening a Little Pink Boutique.
So this post is in loving memory of Dolores ......my Mom...my biggest fan.

Vintage linens are my chocolate!

I love vintage linens. I have been collecting them for years. I recently visited a web site that was so wonderful it inspired this post.

Grandma G's is a beautiful web store full of delicious products created from vintage linens. She has the greatest links for collectors to visit.

I felt like I had just eaten the most wonderful chocolate dessert.

If you love vintage linens her big bottom bags are the best!

These photos are some of my collection. It would figure that sweet Jewels would jump in the trunk while I was in the kitchen photographing the stack of white linens. But this was a real photo op.....he crawled in next to a pillow case with a kitty on it! A kitty that looks just like him!

Show and Tell Mondays

Good Morning! It is 2 a.m. I have been up all night figuring out new things on the computer. Sound familiar? LOL Well I only used the computer for email and to read my horoscope till a few weeks ago when I started participating on Make Mine Pink.
My DBF taught me how to use the digital camera and photo shop. We are proud to tell you we did not end up in orange jumpsuits! No homicides but a little shouting(me)and a good deal of frustration. We did however manage to get a slide show up on this blog.
Why can the computer make a God loving woman into a manic? RRRRRRR........ I am a patient woman. I work in a healing profession (massage therapy). I am a licensed Science of Mind practitioner. None of my training has prepared me for what I have encountered in learning to use computer technology.
Tonight I am working on my old desk top computer because the modem is blocked from connecting to AOL on the lap top. Go figure!!!
What do I know for sure? I know that everything I have learned is going to be invaluable to me . My dream of having a store is becoming a reality at MMP in the form of a Little Pink Boutique. Things are falling into place one at a time. I know if I keep my sense of humor and kiss the DBF often ( he is a computer technology published author) I will develop skills that will take my creations to the world. ( Pei Le I would have never met you or have seen your beautiful miniatures if I hadn't learned how to use the computer)
To all my friends at Make Mine Pink, Thank You, big hugs! So many of you have been wonderful and supported me in so many ways.

Ty Wilson is one of my favorite artist. His work is beautiful. He has captured the look that I have down deep in my artist heart. This image is the one I will call Thrift Store Goddess.
The media keeps telling us that retail shopping is down. Our budgets are challenged by so many things . I have always been a Thrift Store Goddess. I call it rescuing. I love to rescue previously enjoyed items and restore them to well loved treasures.
My favorite thrift shop is Good Will. They price by item. All skirts, blouses, jackets are the same price.Each week they have a special sale on a category and a selected color of tag.
It's a great way to save and you know that your purchase is going to help train people who are employment challenged. I love feeling that my purchase is a donation to Good Will.
I got a ticket for running a red light. I worked off my fine by doing community service for The American Cancer Society's Discovery Shops.
These stores are a higher quality than most thrift stores and you can find wonderful designer labels for pennies on the dollar.
I made a life long friend in the manager of the shop where I worked. Monica was the manager of the Beverly Hills store. ( Sadly it has closed due to rent increases that were too high)
Monica is a beautiful woman,a vibrant blond bombshell even at 60 something.She taught me so much. She is a force of nature.
Monica used her knowledge of retail to create an elegant store.It was a beautiful boutique filled with amazing collectibles.You sure would not call this a thrift store. It looked like a fine shop on Rodeo Drive.
She built relationships with donors. We had items that would knock your socks off.
Designer resale clothing,fine china and crystal,vintage art work,new clothing from high end designers,home decor items,furniture, and jewelry.
I saw a home that had been furnished entirely from Discovery Shops. It looked like pages from Architectural Digest!!!
Her own family had been devastated by this disease and she tirelessly raised money to find a cure.
Monica and her darling boy friend Lloyd(classically dashing good looks)have moved to Northern California to live on her family's farm. I miss her and love her. I look forward to visiting her soon for treasure hunting up north.

The Renaissance Woman

When you open an on line store you find out the meaning of renaissance woman. You become a web designer,photographer,ups shipper,blogger,marketing consultant and so much more.
I'm learning everything from scratch. I didn't know anything more about the computer than how to read my email and check my horoscope!
It is exciting but if I am really honest ,it can be overwhelming.
I spent 3 hours in Picasa today trying to put together a slideshow. Still no slide show! It is such a great feeling when you finally understand a process.I look forward to that feeling in regard to the slideshow!
After an afternoon of frustration it is good to remind myself that all the things I am learning now will be with me for the rest of my life. Never again will I be computer illiterate.
I like to be good at things right off the bat, I am learning that slow and steady progress is lasting.
If you are working on your store YOU ARE IN MY PRAYERS!
I won't let the feeling of being overwhelmed stop me. I'll just keep moving forward(the cursing has reached a new level LOL) Once again let me say,

How to add a picture to your post or site.

Hello Pinkettas!

Adding free clip art to your forum posts is fun and a great way to practice your computer skills .Have fun learning while decorating email and adding color to your posts at Make Mine Pink.The flowers above are free clip art from www.averyl.com/attic. She has wonderful clip art you may use to dress up your sites, She also sells CD's of amazing images you may use. The ones you see here today are FREE.

Click on the link it will take you to her site.

Along the side of the page are a list of catagories.At the bottom is one called "Free Clip Art"click on it.

Right click on the free image you want to save. You will get a little menu,click on save as.......

It will become a saved file.

The name of the file is in the little box , you can change it making it easier to remember. " Like MMP decor"ect. LOL( If my boyfriend read this he would die! He writes books on computer technology. LOL Oh well.....)

When you are at MMP. Go to edit avatar that will make the image appear under your screen name.Or go to edit signature that will have it appear at the bottom of the page by your signature.

Click the little icon with a mountain on it. That is the universal image for adding a picture.

Then click browse. It will give you a pop up window with your saved images in it.

Click on the image and it will go into the "name file ' window.

Then click open. That will transfer it to the MMP browse window.

Then click update and wala.....you have the picture in your post. It will change all your posts and make them pretty.LOL It will add the image to all posts past and present.

Let me know if this is too hard to understand. I have been having so much fun learning new things I just wanted to share this with you and the discovery of this sweet free clip art.

Welcome to my new blog!

Well I've done it! I'm a blogger now!

This past year has brought so many new things. Some wonderful some difficult but a blessing none the less.
My dear Mom passed away on February 20th. She had been living with heart failure and Parkinsons for sometime and she gave up her earthly body for a pair of wings. My sister, brother and I will miss her dearly but I know she is always close. She jumped off that hospital bed and straight into our hearts where she will always have a home.

I am working on developing an online store. I have always wanted to have my own resale shop. Those of you who know me know that The Good Will is my second home. LOL I love rescuing things from a life of no use on a shelf to a good home. Now I am taking it to the streets(or the Internet ).
I read in a Cottage Living magazine about a site called Make Mine Pink. What a blast that has been . I have become the new girl on the block with a bunch of lovely woman who are running on line stores with that Shabby Chic touch.
